Junkyard warriors at Indour
Junkyard Warriors, is the team of enthusiastic engineers from SLIET, Longowal, that have been selected for participation in Mini BAJA ‘09 to be held at NATRAX, Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. Junkyard Warriors is the first team from SLIET to venture into vehicle design competitions.
The story started from a small workshop in a village and ended up as the national champion, showing how life turns. A junkyard story of junkyard warriors. Till 1s of February this year, no one knows whether SLIET is a college or CNBE (team sponsor) is a news channel but India remembers that day as the day when SLIET was the headline of every newspaper and cover story of every automobile magazine. Winning over 7 lacs as prize money in a premier national automobile competition at BAJA SAEINDIA2009, JUNKYARD WARRIORS got their place in history of SLIET. Headed by ARSHJEET SINGH, team consists of 24 pre-final year students of mechanical department, junkyard warriors prepared their ATV in about 8 months. The vehicle was tested for three days during event at INDORE before the final race. India’s formula one star NARAIN KARTIKEYAN and KARUN CHANDHOK graced the occasion as guest of honor. The race (durability event) began over rough terrain containing obstacles in any weather condition and the test was for three hours covering 3.36 kms per lap. Race track includes jumps, bank, hills sandpit, sharp turn, slopes, mud, rocks and wooden logs. MANJINDER SINGH GILL was awarded as the best student driver of India. Adding to the joy two students also got placed in Mahindra and Mahindra marking the first placement of the batch.
